The gurd currency unit was introduced in 1880. From 1919 it's rate was tied to US dollar at 5:1 ratio and was held stable, until 1990ies when set in free floatation. US dollars are also a legal tender in Haiti. 1 gurd equals 100 sentimos. Due to political changes in the 1980ies, a lot of provincial banknote issues took place and many varieties of the presented notes exist.
