Georgia obtained it's own currency in the end of 1991, soon after the crash of ex-USSR. The transitional money - lari-coupons were in use for several years and lost their value quickly. In 1995 lari was introduced, at 1:1.000.000 ratio, and it was tied to US dollar at the beginning. 1 lari equals 100 tetri.
