The german mark for eastern territory of Germany, occupied by the USSR, was issued in 1948, to substitute the previously used throughout entire Germany reichsmarks. In 1991, with the fall of the Berlin Wall, the mark of Federal Germany became the common currency for the unified Germany. In 2002 Germany introduced the euro.
